Supplements are never a bad idea. They can’t do your body any harm as long as it isn’t some kind of caffeine-packed diet pill. Most people don’t get the recommended amounts of vitamins and minerals just from eating 3 square meals a day, and even if you do, you could have a specific deficiency yourself that would need to be supplemented.
Synthetic supplements, the ones you’re familiar with finding in your local grocery store, are not completely useless. However since they do not come from a food source (they are chemically enginereed in laboratories) only approximately 50% (on the high end, could be as low as 25%) of what you take is actually absorbed by your body. So if you’re taking 500mg of vitamin C (asorbic acid), you will probably only end up absorbing and making use of 250mg.
There are natural supplements that are taken directly from food sources that more readily absorb in your system since there are no chemicals or additives. What you are taking with these is exactly what you would be getting from the food, so virtually all is absorbed by your body. A couple examples of these natural, food source supplements are the New Chapter line of supplements and Garden of Life’s line. I’m not sure about Garden of Life, but I know that New Chapter also uses USDA approved organic ingredients, so there is even less chance of getting any kind of chemical or chemically-altered substance with your vitamins.
These food based supplements do tend to be more expensive, however, and you may want to just stick with buying cheaper synthetic ones and just taking an extra one here or there.

It’s true that even if you eat well that you may not be getting all the vitamins/minerals your body needs. In addition, taking vitamin supplements strengthens your immune system making it less likely for you to catch colds.
Calcium supplementation is not generally needed as it’s easy to get enough through dairy products.
I highly recommend a daily multivitamin/mineral such as Theragran, 500mg vitamin C daily, and 1000mg Flax oil softgels which provides the Omega-3 fatty acids.

no, its not true. if you are eating well don’t take extra supplements. your body gets use to of it. and its always harmful when you take something in excess.

    no
there are two types of supplements there are the synthetic and the real,
tests have shown that synthetic supplements have little or no effect on the human body,
and i’m sorry to say that 90% of all supplements are synthetic
so here is what you do, just eat food we have been healthy for 10000’s of years this whole deal of ‘health’ has only been around for the past 20 years.
have a look at your body to see if your heathly here are a few pointers
-is your skins smooth, any blemishes or dryness or too oily?
-(if you male) can you do 30 press ups?
-can you sustain a run down your road with coughing up a lung?
-do you get 9+ hours of sleep?
If you start answering no too these questions you should decide to start changing your diet -maybe add a fruit bowl to your table, keep a bottle (500ml) of water on you at all times and keep drinking from it,
    any questions?

Negative Calorie Foods

The phrase, "negative calorie food", as highlighted in negative calorie diet programs and books, usually refers to foods that allegedly require more energy to digest than they contain.
